Cheverny Touring - Travel Tips on Château de Cheverny

Château de Cheverny Touring - This lovely compact château, still owned by the descendents of the original owners - the Hurault family, is about an hour's drive out of Ambroise or only 20 mins from Blois.
The Château de Cheverny, although small by comparison to other well-known châteaux of the Loire, is well known locally for its architecture as it is a true representation of the French 17th century classical style, with unique & absolute symmetry. The design was inspired by the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. It also houses original furniture, in impeccable condition, spanning the period from Louis XIV to Napoleonic rule.

The sumptuous rooms include: Dining room, Kings room, Great Drawing Room, Gallery Library and Tapestry Room. The private estate of Cheverny château is marked by an alley way of magnificent cedar trees. On the estate there is also an Orangery, which was used to safely house the Mona Lisa during WWII.
Cheverny Touring TIP: There's even something for the kids here, both young and old...
Inside the château there is an Arms Room containing weapons from the 15th to 17th centuries including: swords, crossbows & pistols.
For Tintin fans, the Chateau grounds contain an exhibition centre and shop devoted to this famous childrens cartoon character. The Marlinspike Hall was inspried by Château de Cheverny.
There are electric cars which you can take to explore the estate and maybe glimpse a deer.
Further afield there is a canal where you can hire boats.
Lastly, from April to mid Sept, everyday at 5pm, you can watch the famous Cheverny hounds (Foxhound & Pointevin breeds) being fed at the kennels.
