Sarlat Touring
Visit Perigord Noir's famous town

Sarlat - Maison de la Boëtie

Sarlat touring should be on the agenda for those visiting the Perigord region. Located in the famous Perigord Noir (Black Perigord), this famous town has the highest concentration of historically and architecturally significant buildings.
Sarlat

The distinct and honey-coloured sandstone buildings with their stone roofs are found huddled side by side in the historic old-town centre. The town centre is rimmed with a boundary of ramparts. Park on top of the hill (main tourist bus stop and parking area - off Avenue du Général de Gaulle) and follow the signs down to the centre.
Sarlat - Place de la Liberté

The central Place de la Liberté is a great spot where you can enjoy a drink at one of the bistro/cafés surrounded by amazing architecture and scenery while indulging in the French art of people watching.
Sarlat - Lanterne des Morts

Just around the corner is the Cathedrale Saint Sacerdos behind which lie ruins of Sarlat's first cemetery and also the fascinating dome of Lanterne des Morts (Lantern of the Dead) at the top of the hill.

Sarlat - Eglise Sainte Marie

Complete your visit to this amazing town by coinciding it with market day. The markets are open Wednesday mornings and Saturdays. Otherwise there are the covered markets which are open every day during tourist season or on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays outside high season.
